People with developmental disabilities in Burnaby will soon have access to nine new units of affordable housing.
Following the September 2016 announcement of a $500-million investment in affordable rental housing, the B.C. government has selected Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion to receive $2 million in capital funding for a new housing project at 3755 Banff Ave.
BC Housing will work with the non-profit group to fully develop the project plans and ensure the proper rezoning and consultation is considered and confirmed before construction.
Construction on the project is expected to begin in fall 2017, with completion projected for spring 2018.
Richard Lee, MLA for Burnaby North –
“Providing affordable housing options for people with developmental disabilities is a key part of furthering their independence. It also ensures that having a place to call home continues to be a possibility for all.”
Richard Faucher, co-executive director, Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion –
“Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is pleased to have received a grant of $2 million through the Province’s Investment in Housing Innovation program. This grant, combined with BACI’s own investment, will provide nine units of affordable accessible housing and a state of the art redesign of one of BACI’s long standing inclusive child-care centres. BACI looks forward to working in partnership with BC Housing and the City of Burnaby on this important project.”
