Accessibility Advocate

Four people are smiling on a sunny pier. One person is in a mobility scooter. A large sign about restoring the White Rock Pier is visible on the left. Ocean and clear skies can be seen in the background.

My name is Katie. I have a mom, a dad, three sisters, and one brother. I was at a special event I want to tell you about. It was White Rock’s official opening of the Accessibility Mat. It happened on August 30, 2024.

The mayor was there, and I was also there. I was excited to be there for this important event. I found it interesting that they used giant scissors to cut the ribbon and open it up for everyone.

Accessibility is important in any community. It makes it possible for people who use wheelchairs to access the pier. Mayor Knight said the project “represents our commitment to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their mobility, can experience the joy and beauty of our pier.”

You can check out the Peace Arch News and CTV to see this story, my friends and me. I’m famous!

The next step is to make the railways safe for people to cross with wheelchairs and help them walk across to the pier.

I also want to share that I’m good at being a self-advocate and a leader. I’m organized and I’m a good friend too.
