Braden’s Book Barn

A man stands next to a small outdoor wooden book exchange labeled Bradens Book Barn Est. 2024 on a lawn, with flowers and greenery nearby. The book barn contains several visible books.

By: Braden Webb

My name is Braden, and I have lived in Ladner for over thirty years. I enjoy doing things in my community, including visiting local business owners, taking walks in the parks, and socializing with my neighbours.

I graduated from high school in Ladner. I attend a day program in Ladner, and I also deliver newspapers in this area.

I wanted to make strong connections with my community, so I decided to build a street library. I applied for a Neighborhood Small Grant. Once I received the money, I went to City Hall to plan where I could place my street library.

My parents helped me build this street library, and friends helped me install it. On September 13, 2024, I hosted a street party. Friends from my day program, my local MLA, and even my parents came to my party. We enjoyed food, arts and crafts, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

People visit my street library every day. I enjoy talking with the people who stop at the library. I even suggest books that I think they should read. My street library has helped me build a stronger community.

Next, I plan to start a book club featuring books from Braden’s Book Barn. I hope you enjoyed learning about my street library and its importance to my community.
