Since the Government of B.C.’s announcement of their plan to restart B.C. safely, we have been learning more about what the process will be for returning to sport. There have been some changes to the process since our memo in early May, so we wanted to provide an update on what this currently looks like for Special Olympics BC. Special Olympics BC COVID-19 update May 7,2020

Special Olympics BC welcomes the Government of B.C.’s May 6 announcement about their plan to restart B.C. safely. We’d like to share what the next steps look like for SOBC. We are currently developing plans to safely reactivate each of our sports and all of our programs and activities. Champions for Inclusive Health leading the charge for critical change

Special Olympics BC athletes, volunteers, and families have done a lot in recent years to improve athlete health, as have dedicated Healthy Athletes volunteers. But it won’t be possible to change the dramatically higher rates of health problems faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities without systemic changes.
