Coldest Night of the Year
When: February 22nd, 2020 Walk begins at 3:00PM
Where: Memorial Park at White Rock Beach
Sponsored by: SOURCES BC

It’s Cold Out There! SOURCES is hosting the 7th Annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) in White Rock on Saturday, February 22, 2020. This event is a fun, family-friendly winter walk that happens in 136 communities across Canada on the same day. It allows participants to experience a hint of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness during winter, as well as raise money to help those people.

“The Coldest Night of the Year is an important fundraiser for us,” said SOURCES CEO David Young. “We continue to do it because not everyone has a safe, secure and warm home to curl up in on a cold winter’s day like today. And some who have managed to make a home for themselves and their families continue to live on the edge of homelessness because of unemployment, poor health, and loss of affordable rental units in the Lower Mainland.”

The money raised through the White Rock Coldest Night of the Year provides funds for SOURCES’ Homelessness Prevention Services and Rent Bank – the latter program is 100% funded by this event.

Our goal this year is to raise $100,000, to assist individuals and families who are living on a low income and who are at risk of homelessness.  In addition, we hope to see 500 people participate. Last year, more than 400 people turned up and more than $116,000 was fundraised, ranking our White Rock WALK #8 in the country on event day.

“We may never solve the problem of homelessness, but together, we can lessen the impact of it for people in our community. Together, we help them find and keep shelter. Together, we give them hope. Together, we are a community that cares.”

The White Rock WALK begins at 3 p.m. at a NEW Start/Finish location: Memorial Park at White Rock Beach. Donning iconic CNOY toques, participants will walk a 2, 5 or 10 km route along the waterfront. Toasty drinks and treats will be offered at rest stops along the way, plus a warm celebration meal at the finish line, thanks to generous sponsors from the local community.

Teams and walkers can register online to set up their fundraising page. Everyone is welcome, with walkers ranging from toddlers to active seniors. Registration is free for children aged 10 and under and $25 for others; this waived for youth (11-17) who fundraise $75 or more, and adults (18+) who fundraise $150 or more.
