In the spring of 2023, my family and I moved from Alberta to British Columbia. I like British Columbia because of warmer weather, and it has lots of mountains, trees, beautiful lakes and beaches.

I joined Surrey Connections, a day program in Surrey and we do a lot of activities together. Some of our regular activities at the program are swimming, bowling, walking and going to library. I’ve made new friends at the program and I really enjoy my buddies.

Last year I joined a Bhangra Dance class. I enjoyed it a lot because I learned new steps to new music. We also go places on the bus, the Sky Train and the Sea Bus which is fun. In the summer we have picnics and BBQ parties at Bear Creek Park. I also attended a Self-Advocate event dance party one evening and I had a great night.

I am learning to make simple lunches at the program like soup and sandwiches. My goal is to make these at home independently. I really enjoy attending Surrey Connections because we do a lot of fun things and we learn things too.

Last year we went to Grouse Mountain. I took a gondola ride to the top of the mountain. We watched shows like the Lumber Jack Show and the Talking Bird Show. We walked around and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We also went on a Pumpkin Patch outing and it was fun. I tried Go Karting but I did not like driving the car.

This year went on a big outing and went to the Abbotsford Tulip Festival. I enjoyed walking around and seeing the vibrant tulips in various colors. We took lots of pictures. Some pictures were with the flowers, others were taken on a swing, and on a tractor. We enjoyed lunch in the picnic area.

I also like going to the Chuck Bailey Stadium and to Adapted Stories for music and dance. Once a month we go on a lunch and coffee outing.

In May we joined a walking marathon at Crescent Beach in White Rock. It was fun although it was raining that day. On June 12, we celebrated the 126th Independence Day of the Philippines. We learned about the Philippine flag and how the Philippines became independent. Staff prepared lunch for everyone and we had Filipino food.

I am looking forward to more big outings and to exploring new places.
