A Time for Hope, Renewal, and Community
Easter is a special time of year when many people celebrate new beginnings, springtime, and the joy of being together. Whether you celebrate Easter for cultural, spiritual, or family reasons — or you simply enjoy the sunshine and longer days — this page is here to help you learn, explore, and have fun.

Easter is celebrated by Christians as a joyous holiday because it represents the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament and the revelation of God’s salvific plan for all of humankind. In commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus, Easter also celebrates the defeat of death and the hope of salvation. Christian tradition holds that the sins of humanity were paid for by the death of Jesus and that his Resurrection represents the anticipation believers can have in their own resurrection.

Easter Message 2026

A middle-aged man with short gray hair, wearing a dark suit, white shirt, and dark tie, poses against a plain light gray background, looking directly at the camera with a slight smile.

“Today, I join millions of Christians in Canada and around the world in celebrating Easter.

Easter is a time to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the enduring promise of renewal and redemption.

We are reminded that compassion is stronger than hate, that light follows darkness, and that hope endures – even in the face of despair.

On this holy day, we carry forward the example and the blessings of Jesus with optimism for the future.

Happy Easter, Canada, from my family to yours.”

Easter Recipes 2026

Cinnamon Roll Bunnies

A blue rectangular button with a white printer icon and the word Print written next to it.

Turn refrigerated cinnamon roll dough into adorable bunnies. These sweet treats are perfect for Easter brunches and baby showers.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 5
  • 1 (16 ounce) package cinnamon roll dough with glaze (such as Immaculate)
  • 5 raisins

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Unroll 1 cinnamon roll dough and cut in half. Roll 1 half to form the “body.” Rotate roll so the outer end of roll is facing downward; this will form the bunny’s “front legs.” Cut off 1/3 of the remaining dough and roll it up to form the “tail.” Roll up the last 2/3 of the dough to about the halfway point to form the “head.” Slice through remaining unrolled portion and fan out the pieces to form the “ears.”

  3. To attach the “tail” and “head” to the “body”, rub away any cinnamon coating, wet dough, and press the pieces together. Spread out the “ears” and pinch them at the tips to shape. Transfer the “bunny” to the prepared baking sheet by carefully lifting with a spatula or scraper. Repeat with remaining rolls.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 15 to 18 minutes. Slide parchment paper with “bunnies” onto a wire rack to cool slightly.

  5. Spread glaze onto warm “bunnies,” following the pattern of the swirls and ears. Press a raisin into the center of the swirl on the head to form the “eyes.”

Easter Basket Cake

A blue rectangular button with a white printer icon and the word Print written next to it.

This is a very festive Easter basket cake for the holiday! Instead of using candy to decorate the basket, I’ve also used milk chocolate icing or colored the vanilla icing to match the handle, then used a fork to gently rake a basket-type woven look into the sides of the cake.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 25 mins
Additional Time: 15 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 1 (2-layer, 8-inch) round cake
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package white cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 (16 ounce) can white frosting
  • 1 (14 ounce) package candy-coated chocolate pieces
  • 2 drops green food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon water
  • 2 cups flaked coconut

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease 2 (8-inch) round cake pans.

Blend together cake mix, 1 cup water, egg whites, and oil in a large bowl with an electric mixer at low speed until moistened, about 30 seconds. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour batter into the prepared cake pans.

  2. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 23 to 28 minutes. Cool in the pans for 15 minutes. Remove cakes from the pans and cook completely on a wire rack.

  3. Cut a circle out of the center of 1 cake layer, leaving a ring that measures 1 1/2 inches from the outer to the inner edge. Place uncut cake layer on a serving platter and frost the top. Place ring layer on top of frosted layer and frost the sides and top of basket. Decorate the sides and top by pressing candy pieces into frosting.

  4. Combine green food coloring and 1/2 teaspoon water in a medium bowl. Stir in coconut with a fork until evenly tinted. Place green coconut grass in the center of cake basket.

  5. Cut an 8×16-inch piece of aluminum foil. Fold in half lengthwise 4 times. Wrap with ribbon, securing the ends with tape. Insert the ends into the cake top to create a handle. Fill basket with Easter candy and goodies, if desired.

Editor’s Note

The directions for making cake are based on Duncan Hines White Cake Mix. Follow the instructions on the box if using a different brand.

Community Living Month Oct 2026

October 2026 has been proclaimed Community Inclusion Month in British Columbia, recognizing the importance of building communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong, participate, and thrive. The proclamation is an important statement of what an inclusive province should look like: a place where everyone has opportunity, choice and control in their own lives, and where people with disabilities are welcomed as full and valued members of their communities. But a proclamation is only the beginning. The real work of
