Standing Up for Those With A Disability

My name is Louise, and I want to stand up for everyone, including myself and others, all over the community and even worldwide. I especially want to stand up for those who experience barriers.

I find it hard to fit in with other people because of my disability. I live with OCD. I struggle to deal with many people because they’re different from me.

It doesn’t matter what disability they have. I wish I could stand up and help people who go through the same thing every day and feel like they are less because of it.

I want to help people know that it’s okay to be different. I want to teach inclusion to others so that we can all have decent friends and be like the popular kids in school.

Some of us want to be like those popular kids. We have the right to fit in just like everyone else in this country because it is a free country. Sometimes, people with disabilities feel like they can’t fit in because they think that a lot of people won’t accept them because of the way they are.

I want to change this and make a difference in the lives of people who go through this daily. I want to show everyone that they, too, are important no matter who they are or any disability they might have.

I believe God made us all the way we are. If God had a problem with how we were or were born, He would have taken us home a long time ago.

So let’s all accept the way we are, and everybody get along whether we have a disability or not. We’re all important and unique in our own way. Everyone has a right to fit in with all the rest of the people in this world.

Community Living Month Oct 2026

October 2026 has been proclaimed Community Inclusion Month in British Columbia, recognizing the importance of building communities where everyone has the opportunity to belong, participate, and thrive. The proclamation is an important statement of what an inclusive province should look like: a place where everyone has opportunity, choice and control in their own lives, and where people with disabilities are welcomed as full and valued members of their communities. But a proclamation is only the beginning. The real work of
