The Kamloops Self Advocate Newsletter October 2026 Edition

October is here, and that means pumpkins, colorful leaves, Halloween decorations, costumes,
candy, movies, music, and lots of fun in our communities. But October is also important because
it is Community Inclusion Month. This is a time to celebrate belonging, friendship, self advocacy, and making sure everyone has an opportunity to participate in community life.

In this issue, we bring Halloween and community inclusion together. We have interviews,
personal stories, entertainment, accessibility information, community events, Halloween
activities, movies, recipes, jokes, and much more.

Community Inclusion Month whether that means being part of the Where We Belong Regional
Conference, which gives people an opportunity to celebrate everyone’s voice, or making sure you
get out to vote and having a say in the decisions that affect your community.

Halloween is for everyone, but it doesn’t have to look the same for everybody. Some people
enjoy dressing up, trick-or-treating, busy events, and lots of excitement. Other people may prefer
staying home, watching a favorite movie, or having a quieter celebration. Our message is
simple: everyone should be able to celebrate Halloween in a way that works for them.

Thanksgiving is another part of this issue. We say a special thank you to support workers, people
working in the disability field, self-advocates, families, caregivers, educators, advertisers,
sponsors, contributors, volunteers, partners, and our readers.
