On April 2, 2026, Disability Alliance BC (DABC) and the Individualized Funding Resource Centre Society (IFRC) held a press conference to protest the loss of federal funding for the Right Fit Program. The event took place at the Harmony Building in Vancouver, a development specifically featuring accessible housing units.
Key Impacts of Closure
  • Loss of Support: Over 200 wheelchair users remain on the program’s growing waitlist.
  • Homelessness Risk: Advocates warned that without these services, users face immediate risk of homelessness or institutionalization.
  • Vital Infrastructure: Since 2017, the program successfully placed 371 individuals into stable, accessible homes.
  • Unsafe Conditions: Without matching services, individuals are often forced into inaccessible or unsafe living environments.

Action and Advocacy
  • Political Presence: MP Jenny Kwan attended to support the demand for restored funding.
  • Community Rally: A public rally was scheduled for April 22, 2026, at the office of Federal Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Gregor Robertson.
  • Public Petition: Supporters are being urged to sign a petition to demand urgent federal action.
📍 The Right Fit Program is currently the only initiative of its kind in Canada.
